Val d’Isere
With the help of ski experts before you go on your main ski holiday this winter, there’s an opportunity to revamp your skiing. The ski courses run from the very first day of the season, so if you arrive on 28th November, and stay a week, you can take an early lift the next morning up the mountain. The ski instructors have been guiding students for many years around the Val d’Isere slopes.
What about the virus safety situation and how it will affect your ski holiday? Val d’Isere had a triumphant summer ski season on the glacier in June and July and the resort followed safety measures successfully. These measures will not create lift queues or lead to any reduction in ski terrain, they assure us. Yes, you’re going to be required to wear a mask on lifts and in socially-distant lift queues, but otherwise, it shouldn’t affect skiing itself.
The main question is: can we travel to the French Alps with the current quarantine conditions? This is an economic question, not just about health. Millions of jobs depend on the ski industry’s continuation in the mountains and elsewhere, and resorts are equipped and Covid-ready. Incidentally, before the slopes and the hotels closed in March, there wasn’t a single case of the virus reported in Val d’Isere.
The ski courses, both on-piste and off-piste, are intensive, but fun. Numbers are limited, divided according to ability and experience, to six or seven per group. On a blue run, you need to be able to ski connected parallel turns and try the same on a red run.
