Val d’Isère is a commune of the Tarentaise Valley in the Savoie department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, located in south-eastern France. It is very close to the Vanoise National Park and lies just 5 km (3 miles) from the border of Italy. The area is 94.39 km2 (36.44 sq miles) it’s large and has a variety of activities to suit all members of the family. The closest airport is Chambery-Savoie which is 144 km away. Geneva Cointrin International Airport is probably the most convenient for foreign visitors which is 177 km away.
For the skiers amongst you the Tarentaise Valley has the largest concentration of world class ski resorts in the world. The neighbouring areas are Paradiski, Les Arcs and La Plagne and Les Trois Valleés, Courchevel, Méribel and Val Thorens plus many more. In the Val d’Isère ski area there are over 300 km of marked piste runs and unlimited off piste skiing, this makes it an ideal location for skiers and snowboarders of all abilities to ski there.
What else does Val d’Isère offer? The village has numerous shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and if you want nightlife there is plenty going on.
