Why not try something different and travel by train to the French Alps in 2021. It will be a new experience, and it means you avoid the hassle at airports. The French Alps are so easy to reach from the UK and other European destinations.
It’s safe to assume that some of you who enjoy skiing would prefer not to travel to your favourite ski destination. Naturally, it depends on which resort you choose; however, if you’re planning a vacation in the French Alps, you’re in luck; have you considered taking the train? Ski Train timetable
The ski train runs from December through April, with exact dates announced when tickets go on sale. There are two regular trips per week, departing from London St Pancras and Ashford International. These are on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, transporting skiers directly to Moutiers, Aime La Plagne, or Bourg-St-Maurice, the French Alps (however, the return route does not stop at Aime La Plagne).
You don’t need to change at Paris or Lille
You won’t have to change trains in Paris or Lille, and once you’re in the French Alps, you may visit Courchevel, La Tania, Meribel, St. Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires, Val Thorens, Valmorel, La Plagne, Les Arcs, La Rosiere, St. Foy, Tignes, and Val d’Isère, to name a few. Most tourists have previously booked a shuttle bus, minibus, coach, private hire car, or taxi to take them to their destination. It is worth mentioning, however, that a funicular train connects Bourg-St-Maurice with Les Arcs.
Take the daytime train for a great experience
The most popular train is the daytime train, which takes roughly eight hours from London to the Tarentaise Valley ski destinations. Because it is more expensive than taking an overnight train without sleeper accommodations, most people prefer to travel during the day. On the other hand, the overnight service is not only less expensive, but it also gives you two extra days on the slopes because you come early on Saturday morning and depart late on Saturday night. Because there are no sleeper compartments available on the night train, it is not recommended for families with small children to travel at this time. Instead, families with young children should take the day train.
Travel by Euro Star
If you plan on taking the Euro Star to your ski destination, book early, especially during the Christmas and New Year holidays and other school vacation times. They sell out rapidly because they are a more cost-effective way to travel, particularly to the French Alps. School holidays during February half-term sell out rapidly as well, so book early if at all feasible. Easter is also a busy time because it is usually the last chance to ski before the season ends. The Euro Star is not the only ski train available; the SNCF rail service to the Alps is also worth considering. This service connects Paris, Lille, and Lyon with the Eurostar services in the Alps. The Lyon route is the least busy and is worth looking at.
Travel by train and take extra luggage & ski equipment
When you go by train, you can bring additional luggage, ski equipment, and possibly even your bicycles because there are no weight restrictions or constraints, allowing you to get everything you wish. When flying, these charges can quickly pile up and become prohibitively expensive. Consider how much time you’ll spend at the airports and examine your options if you’re travelling with a family; this may be more cost-effective in every manner.
Don’t forget to purchase insurance for everyone in your family before going on your ski vacation this year. Holiday insurance is always a good idea, but it’s much more so when you’re going skiing, snowboarding, or doing other activities.
