Latest ski news before Christmas

Skiing Santa
Santa at Christmas

At last there has been a tremendous amount of snowfall these past few days just in time for the festive ski season. Many of the ski resorts have seen a metre of snow and some have reported more than that. The majority of the ski resorts have now opened and the ski season is well and truly underway.

The popular ski resort of Méribel in the French Alps has seen plenty of the white stuff this week and so has Adelbodden in Switzerland. Austria’s, Flachauwinkl ski resort has been delighted with almost 3 feet of snow (80cm) these past couple of days.

Along with the heavy snowfall some resorts have experienced very strong gales in Val d’Isère, St Moritz and Davos in particular. It has been the cause of cancellation of some competitions over the weekend. Beautiful Tignes has been blessed with powdery snow and clear blue skies, simply enticing skiers and snowboarders to book a last minute deal.

The latest snowfall across most of the resorts couldn’t have come at a better time, as temperatures have plummeted by at least 10 degrees since last week. The timing couldn’t be more perfect for the onset of ski season as families will be arriving in their droves for Christmas and New Year.
