Perfectly situated in the centre of a giant bowl at the heart of the Grande Massif, the ski lifts of Flaine give great access to its surrounding areas. The position of the north facing bowl means that the snow conditions here have an excellent record. Flaine is an excellent beginner-friendly resort with easy access to the nursery slopes at the top of the Grand Platieres skiing area. Amongst the many tree-lined runs, intermediate skiers and snowboarders should seek the long 14km blue run which takes you back down to resort-level. The terrain is varied with big wide sweeping reds, off-piste, fields and mogul runs. Experts will feel the buzz on the 12 blacks to choose from. There is also an opportunity to ski the Vallee Blanche in Chamonix with regular day trips from the local ski school, Ecole du Ski Francais.
Snowboarding in Flaine
Freeriders will find plenty of off-piste trails to ride down, particularly towards the tree runs of Samoens and Les Carroz. Serious extreme boarders should throw themselves down the Combe de Gers steep bowl that has a 700m vertical drop. Set beside the Calcedoine run is the big Jampark, the best funpark in the area.
