Skiing in Avoriaz
Situated on a cliff edge, Avoriaz grants fantastic access to one of the world’s largest skiing areas, the vast Portes du Soleil. The resort is extremely well designed and you can literally pile out of your apartment in the morning and find yourself right on the slopes! One hot tip is to ski down to the 6-seater chair which will whizz you up to the top of the piste. The Avoriaz slopes are arguably the best of the Portes du Soleil. Should you fancy touring the region, you can head over to charming alpine town Morzine via its picturesque tree lined runs, or further afield to the Les Gets which has its own mountain ‘Mount Chery’ with runs for every ability from the top of its gondola, making it perfect for mixed ability ski holiday groups. On the other side of the local Avoriaz slopes, you’ll find some very pretty resorts, including skiing some great long runs over into Switzerland. Why not sample some local Swiss cheese dishes at Les Crosets or Morgins?
Skiing holidays to the Portes du Soleil provide a great choice for all levels of skier. Beginners will have big wide open sunny slopes very close to the village. Intermediates will benefit the most from the endless amount of blues and reds, so many you’ll struggle to cover them all in a week. Advanced skiers will love the powder fields or the 20+ black runs. ‘The Swiss Wall’ is probably the most famous (and scary!) black run, full of mammoth moguls to conquer.
