Ski Austria! More than a thousand years old, the traditional Tyrolean ski resort is surrounded by the breathtaking Kitzsteinhorn Glacier scenery of the Europa Sport Region. Overshadowed by neighbouring lively Zell am See, Kaprun is an underrated skiing destination in its own right. The year-round resort is good for group skiing holidays as it has plenty to do off the piste. Families will adore its Austrian authentic charm.

Together with Zell am See, the two resorts make up the Europa Sport Region. The two regions have 130km of downhill skiing to enjoy spread across 81 individual pistes. Although they are bus-linked, the journey between the two is worth the extra variety granted. Locally speaking Kaprun has 59km with the highest lift sitting at 3,029m. Winter or summer, you can take advantage of the exciting glacier skiing. Zell’s lifts close around the middle of April, when attention turns to Kaprun for its year-round open lifts to glacier skiing(excluding a few weeks at the beginning of June). Beginners can reach their dedicated Maiskogel area by cable car from the village centre. With mainly red runs, the Kaprun area is best suited to those on intermediate skiing or snowboarding holidays. Advanced skiers will find tree-lined dare-devil black runs and steep moguls to bump down.
